Director Statement

“Desire in You” is a summer story about two young girls, best friends, talking and contemplating about topics like relationships, sex, love, heartbreaks, loneliness, mortality … and slowly we dive into main protagonist’s subconscious. For the casting, I described the film as Gilmore Girls meets David Lynch with French New Wave vibe. The film is about moments when we desperately seek salvation in love. Desire paints an imaginary picture and instills hope in the future, so we can easily cope with the loneliness in real life. This means that every disappointment and heartbreak hits hard and sets off a stream of thought of despair that unearths other repressed worries and fears. This is the moment when we are forced to face ourselves. The dark side of desire is actually fear. Behind the non-fulfillment of wishes lies the fear that they will never come true. Through the dynamics and perspective of two young girls, we explore the different layers of desire. From the fleeting, shallow ones that direct our attention, to the long lasting, deep ones that are the driving force of life.
